When people describe an encounter with adult film legend Julia Ann, they often-express sentiments to the effect of, "She is simply one of the most beautiful, nicest people I've ever met," as if someone of such iconic importance could not also be down-to-earth, personable, and approachable. People with such a mystique and reputation are not typically like Julia Ann. In fact, there is no one else quite like her.
She joined the biz in 1992 at age 23, making her slightly more mature than your typical porn newbie. She is still making porn today because she refuses to quit the work that she loves so much. Ann has been able to sustain such a long career because shooting porn is a way to live out her greatest fantasies. Julia has grown from a luscious 20-something into a curvy MIlf with 36D breasts, a trim 24-inch waist and a jaw-dropping 37-inch ass. She stands 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs an athletic 128 pounds.
Ms. Ann is an adventurous woman, with the tattoos to prove it, but she does not have any piercings. Recently, Julia has assumed roles beyond the on-camera performances she is best known for, all while maintaining a full shooting schedule. She started her own website, where she produces erotic movies for women that have put her in the roles of producer and director! She has excelled at both and won over new fans in the process.
Never one to shy away from girl/girl scenes Julia cites India Summer as one of her favorite female performers to work with, according to one interview online. (Great MILFs of the world unite!) She also adores fellow pornstar Christy Canyon because Christy is always reinventing herself. Julia Ann's ultimate fantasy crush is actor Hugh Jackman, thanks to his sexy Australian accent, according to interviews. When she is not shooting porn, she loves scuba diving and world travel.
Ann married on January 1, 2019, in a small Hawaii ceremony attended by a few friends.
Even if you're not Hugh Jackman, Julia Ann is a pornstar to keep your eye on, and with this enormous collection of the best Julia Ann sex videos of all time, Adult Empire makes it easier than ever to be her fantasy co-star!

Interview With Julia Ann - May 13, 2004
Phone Interview
PornstarEmpire.com: You were well-established in the adult industry by the time you became a Wicked Girl a few years back. What made you want to sign a contract with them at this point in your career?
Julia Ann: Well, at that point (when I signed with Wicked), the only other contract I had was with Vivid. I just wanted another really good company that put out good product, had a lineup of good girls, and had that same kind of atmosphere. And for me, Wicked was the only other company that had the atmosphere that I enjoyed working in. Between their product being so good and having girlfriends that were contract girls for them, they were the most familiar to what I enjoyed and what I was used to.
Q: One of your first "claims to fame" was feature dancing with Janine as part of a team called "Blondage". I know recently you danced with her again for a charity benefit. What was it like getting back together, and do you guys have any plans to dance again in the future?
Julia Ann: It was kind of like sisters who haven't seen each other in a long time - and the second they sit down and start talking, it's like no time has passed. It was the same kind of thing. The two of us were on stage thinking "Oh my god, what are we going to do up here?!" We had no idea. And I think we walked up there, and it just kind of all fell together like no time had passed. It was a wonderful experience. Will we do it again? I don't know. Probably, because we do enjoy it. Do we have any plans to feature together again like we did when "Blondage" was in its heyday? No, we don't. We don't really have any plans for that. But we didn't want to say "not again", because what if we do? Then we'd look like fools.
Q: What's more fun for you, feature dancing in front of an audience or performing in front of the camera for your movies?
Julia Ann: Two completely different things. The experiences are so very different. Being on stage, in front of a crowd...it's a way that I can just kind of get lost. Movies are where you get a chance to express yourself - but not as yourself, as someone else. Which is why I enjoy making the movies...I'm making characters with so many layers to them. You get a chance to be someone else and contribute to a project. On stage, you just kick up your heels and express who you are. It's entirely different, and there's not one I like more than the other.
Q: The majority of movies that you make are adult features - do you enjoy the acting bits as much as you do the sex scenes?
Julia Ann: Yes - for the first time in my career, actually. Only in the last few years. In the first part of my career, Christy Canyon and I both used to say the same thing, "Oh my god, don't make me say those lines!" Because we both had that thought, "I don't wanna act!" But since I shot Paradise Lost with Michael Raven, I truly enjoy the acting aspect, and now I'm really into it. We're just completing a movie called Killer Sex, and it's probably the movie I've put the most effort into. I have to fight and do a little bit of martial arts - and I was so afraid that I wasn't going to do it right. I decided to take martial arts for about three months...I had an instructor and he helped me put it together so I wouldn't look like a sissy girl! Did I do the training like they did for The Matrix? No! But at the same time, there was a lot of effort I was putting into it because I really wanted to be good, and I'm to that point now where I'm thinking that anything that I do I want to do it as well as I can do it, and not just get it done because it's in my contract.
Q: My next question is actually about Killer Sex. I've been told that it's kind of an adult version of Kill Bill. I was wondering if you could tell us a little more about the movie and who you'll be performing with in it.
Julia Ann: I loved The Long Kiss Goodnight. It's one of my favorite movies with Geena Davis. And I said, "Gosh, I wish we could do a movie like that." So the next thing I knew, Michael Raven said to me, "You know, I'm working on this movie for you." And then Kill Bill came out, so a little of Kill Bill got tossed in there! It's kind of Kill Bill meets The Long Kiss Goodnight. So it was really exciting, but at the same time really scary because I looked at it (the script) and I saw the fighting and I saw "she dropkicks a guy in the alley"...and I was like, "Wait a minute...I don't know how to do that!" So, I got kind of queasy! So I ran off and got the martial arts instructor and I'm thinking I pulled it off pretty good. So, I'm anxious to see what happens. The players that are in it with me...Randy Spears plays my husband, who gets assassinated and he's the reason I'm taking out my vengeance. Brad Armstrong plays the boss who sent the order out to kill him. Jessica Drake, Steven St. Croix, Evan Stone, Kaylani Lei...that's about it as far as talent.
Q: And this is a Michael Raven (directed) movie?
Julia Ann: Yes.
Q: Out of the movies that you've done for Wicked that have already been released, do you have any favorites or ones that you're particularly proud of your performance in?
Julia Ann:Beautiful, which we won many awards for. I got (Best) Actress - it got Best Director, Best Video of the Year, Best Screenplay...Stormy was Starlet of the Year, and she was in it. Just so many wonderful things came from that. The other one I really care for is The Assignment by Jonathan Morgan. It was the first movie that I've done where somebody really let me stop being the "diva" - the "big makeup and eyeliner Contract Girl". He let me be me - he let me wear sweats, he let me wear mascara and a little lip gloss, put my hair in a bun - and for the very first time be a real person. It was a little scary. I think we're so used to hiding behind "the other us" - there's Julia and then there's Julia Ann, and I guess I'm so used to hiding behind all the makeup and the hair. So it was a little scary, but it was wonderful. It was really nice to be able to do, and because of that, the movie got a really good reaction as well. I'd actually been told by somebody there that they really enjoyed my acting in this movie, because they felt like they were watching the person in this movie and not Julia Ann playing this person. And that was really nice, because that's what I was going for. I wanted to have that Ashley Judd sort of feel, where she's just so often her. Just being very natural.
Q: You're probably one of the most recognizable women who is active in the adult industry. Do you get spotted in public a lot, and are those occurrences positive or negative?
Julia Ann: You know, really never. I have to say, I'm so fortunate. I feel that I look so different without the makeup and the hair and the outfits. I don't really get picked out. Only a couple times, really. Once in Beverly Hills, a girl came running screaming at me, and I thought "Oh my god, did I accidentally pick something up and put it in my purse?" I thought I stole something! I couldn't figure out what it was, and she stopped and she said "Oh my god, it's you!" And I thought, "Who?!" And I had my girlfriend with me, and I couldn't figure it out...it took me a minute, because I wasn't in that frame of mind. And it finally dawned on me what she was saying. But does it happen to me a lot? No. When I'm in my personal life, I wear my sweats, I have my hair up.
Q: We've been seeing more and more of established female talent getting involved behind the scenes - whether it be directing, writing or something else. Is this something you're interested in, or perhaps something you'd like to try when you decide to stop performing?
Julia Ann: No. There was a time when I thought so. But not so much anymore. The other day somebody asked, "What are you going to do next?" And, I have to tell you, for the first time I stopped and looked at them and said, "Gosh! You know, I have no idea!" I used to be able to think "Well, I want to do this - or oh, I want to do that." I would come up with all these things, but the realities are that at this point in my life I really enjoy my job. And it's kind of hard, because if this were any other job, I could do it until I was 80. But I can't. And this industry is probably going to me out of this position before emotionally I'm ready to go. So, I will have to find something else to do! I will be into another field. But do I want to go? No - I'll go kicking and screaming. Because I do enjoy where I'm at.
Q: I wanted to give you a chance to talk a little about your official website (www.juliaann.com) and what visitors can expect to find there?
Julia Ann: I do my website myself - although I do have someone to help me technically. But all of the content is stuff that I've put up. I read my e-mail myself. I answer it myself. I'm about as hands-on as anybody can really be. Some of the content is shot by Michael Raven. I'm lucky in that respect in that I have my own in-house director! But I enjoy my site, and I think I'm one of the few girls who's hands-on. It's done for me out of my office, in my house, everything comes directly through me and not everyone has that one-on-one...often, the girls have other people that run their site for them. I enjoy it...it's my baby.
Q: And other than Killer Sex, do you have any projects or upcoming appearances that you'd like to let your fans know about?
Julia Ann: There's going to be another movie shot. It's me and Jessica Drake - it's a Jonathan Morgan movie called Valley 911, but we haven't gotten started on it yet. It's going to be really, really cute, fun and sexy, but it's not going to be considered one of the "bigger" movies of the year.
Interview with Julia Ann - April 12, 2002
On the Set Of "Hercules" in Los Angeles, CA
Pornstarempire.com: What CDs are in your CD player now?
Julia Ann: Oh my god, right now is scary. I have Judas Priest?
Q: Which one?
Julia Ann: It's the greatest hits... this double pack CD. I'm all about "You Got Another Thing Coming." It's heavy in my rotation right now. I'm a little hostile. Also, Melissa Etheridge. Which actually I don't listen to a lot of, but there's that one hit I like. That big hit that she had "tell me does she want you, infatuate and haunt you".
Q: The window song.
Julia Ann: Yeah, that's the only one in permanent rotation.
Q: Do you program the tracks in?
Julia Ann: Nah, I just hit rewind. Hmm, it's six disc player, so... oh yeah, The Kinks. I took Edema out... I took Frank Zappa out... I took Three Dog Night out... I can't remember now.
Q: Yeah, I'm sure you'll remember during the interview?
Julia Ann: Yeah, I'll just randomly throw one out!
Q: So tell us how you got started in the industry.
Julia Ann: Well, in 91/92 I did a movie for Andrew Blake called Hidden Obsessions. And the scene ended up being very well known, it was an ice dildo scene between myself and Janine, and that was the first movie I did. And after that I worked very exclusively with Patty Roads and Fred Lincoln. I did a lot of projects for them, whatever they produced. And then I signed with Vivid for a while and I did the Vivid thing and then came back, had a very short working relationship with Digital Playground, and now I'm settled at Wicked where all my friends are... so it's very entertaining, to say the least. I'm surprised we get anything done, there's so much jesting and joking.
Q: Who are some of your favorites to work with?
Julia Ann: I like working with Billy Glide, I think he's a very sweet person, and as large as he is, he has a very good touch for me and that's always a plus. Because every now and again you get paired with somebody you don't really have all that much chemistry with and that makes it difficult. Thankfully, that's rare. I love working with Randy Spears, I haven't worked with Evan Stone yet so I can't say - even though he's in this movie. I love working with Mr. Marcus. I worked with him once and it was a wonderful experience. I have to say, and I know Brad Armstrong is a director for this company, and I have to throw him out there because he and I have had, I'd say, some scenes that are fun, real, and intimidating and I think that makes a good mixture when you want something on film that shows personality in a relationship between two people.
Q: How intimidating?
Julia Ann: You know what it is, I always found him to be adorable and funny and I always say he's easy on the eyes, so once you get in that position after ten years of joking with somebody about having sex with them and all of a sudden there you are... oh my god! So, yeah, I was nervous... I won't speak for him, but I was, absolutely.
Q: So what were you doing before Hidden Obsessions?
Julia Ann: I danced on the road. I already featured, so I did that, I did some shaving cream wrestling, which was so much better than mud and oil, I have to tell you, because the thing about shaving cream is that it just wipes right off, fades off the clothing, nothing to it, just evaporates into thin air. Shaving cream wrestling was definitely a plus. I did that for a while. I was a licensed manicurist, but y'know that didn't last. I just couldn't sit still that long.
Q: Where did you grow up?
Julia Ann: I was born and raised in Los Angeles, in Hollywood. When I was twelve years old I moved to a little town in the mountains called Idyllwild, lived there until I was 17 and then moved back to Hollywood.
Q: How has it been family-wise, working in the industry? How do your parents feel about it?
Julia Ann: My family's great. My aunt went to the AVN Awards one year, when I dance locally she shows up... the year that I hosted the AVN Awards it was very funny. What you see when you watch the AVN [Awards] is not quite the same as what ends up on the cable station, because once it goes to cable they put in the hardcore strips. Well, you really wouldn't know that unless you watched it. So, here I host, and my aunt's like "Oh, you know what, we're gonna have the family over and we're gonna watch it when it comes out on cable." So we have food and everybody's there, and I'm thinking "oh great big deal because I hosted the show, wonderful, well grandma gets to see something." Oh did grandma get to see something! So we're all sitting there and my aunt's walking by, and I think most of us are in shock, so we haven't really done anything about it yet, thinking "maybe she can't see it..." So my aunt walks by and as she's walking by she sees it and goes "aah!" and puts her hands over my grandmother's eyes and goes "Ma, what are you watching??" She goes "I don't know, you put it on." So that was my big story for family. They don't freak out. They're real good about it and when things are going good for me they're happy. I'm pretty even and level-headed so I land on my feet. And my grandma says "I'm glad you're popular at what you do." So there's no hard feelings.
Q: What's the difference between doing it in a movie or live... when you're dancing and the audience is right there or if it's here when you're surrounded by your friends and crew and stuff like that?
Julia Ann: You mean to have sex live as opposed to in your personal life?
Q: Or just to perform live in front of an audience?
Julia Ann: Y'know, I think it comes naturally for some people. Some people just don't have a problem with an audience. Now granted, I like a professional audience. When I'm filming, I want the people on set to be there... they're supposed to be there to film for me to get the job done. It's really not a live peep show. I keep joking that if people are gonna be on the set that are extras... if I'm doing a live show for civilians, then I want some kickback. Throw a little cash my way. [laughs] But, no, my thought is I'm doing a job and I'm acting and I don't need a lot of outside people coming in and hanging out and staring, because a monkey in a zoo, I'm not. But as far as being comfortable with the crew, I've worked with this crew for ten years. At this point I think it just happens and we just do our jobs and everybody knows what they're supposed to do and it flows real easily, so it doesn't make you nervous anymore.
Q: What about how it compares to when you were dancing. How does it change when you see the audience reaction when you're dancing, but you don't really see the audience reaction when you're shooting a movie?
Julia Ann: When I'm dancing on the road I get a lot of really interesting reactions. I mean, people come up to me and say everything from "god, I loved you in that movie, you were so good, your acting was so great" to "oh, you know, I just loved watching so and so fuck the shit out of you." I get all kinds of different responses. The one that I get the most, and at this point after so many years in this industry I've realized that I've been told what my niche is... sometimes you don't understand what you're good at or what it is you portray, but you get enough people coming back to you telling you what you do for them or what you portray for them or how you make them feel, that's how you get to know who you are... through the eyes of other people. So after all this time I realized that what I get is that Julia, you're one of the only girls that we've noticed that you treat the person in the scene like they're your lover... like you actually love them, that you care about them, that you pamper them, you talk to them, you hold them, you stroke them, you look like you're making love or you're loving these people and not just glassy-eyed and having a sex scene and going from position to position... that there's a passion that I guess I exude. And now I'm aware of that people feel this, and so now I make sure that always comes across, because I don't want to lose what makes them so happy.
Q: Why do you think that was so natural for you?
Julia Ann: I don't know, I think some people are sexual and some people are sensual. I think that's my gift. I don't think I'm a very sexual person... it's not very often you see me in the films saying all the more graphic, nasty, filthy things. It's just my nature to be more nurturing or more caring or more passionate. Some people just aren't passionate. It doesn't make them bad people. They may be great in bed! Especially for somebody else who's not passionate.
Q: So do you feel sometimes like there's two kinds of people and maybe you're working one who's more sensual or one who's more sexual?
Julia Ann: Oh yeah, I have scenes with people that... they're either new and they don't know and they're going with the raw basics of what they know... so they haven't really applied their own sensuality yet. Or they're people who have been here so long that they just go for the extreme thing that they know they're good at and the positions the camera absolutely needs and they don't step outside of themselves anymore or they don't use that passion anymore. Luckily, I've come to know the people who are overly passionate, and they're the ones that I want the scenes with. Nobody can argue that Mr. Marcus isn't probably one of the most passionate players in our industry, so yeah I draw off of him. Steven St. Croix can be very passionate, I can draw off of him. Some are absolutely very emotional. Sean Michaels is very passionate. Some of them aren't, some of them are very raw. And that's fine, it works, it's great for camera, but my thought is "Y'know, I wanna have a little fun, too!" And it makes my camera better when it comes to my expressions and the reality of it.
Q: Do you get recognized a lot? You mentioned fans come up to you and talk about your roles...
Julia Ann: That's when I'm dancing. Fans don't really come up to me so much in the streets. I look very different, I usually have my hair back, I usually have sunglasses on, I don't wear any makeup. At the very most, some lip gloss and some mascara. And when I'm on film I'm very done up. It's not like they do me light on film. I'm either very done up or I'm very plain. And the in-between doesn't really come into play all that often. I've had a couple of times where I've been snagged on the street. Once on Rodeo Drive, a woman came running out of Prada, screaming at me. But it really doesn't happen all that often. And quite frankly I'm glad I look different because it helps me keep some balance in my life. God forbid you ever have kids or anything and you have one of those faces that's just always recognizable no matter what and you're getting cat-called every time you turn around. It can get old.
Q: What about if you're on the street and someone looks at you and says "you look really familiar, do I know you?"
Julia Ann: I play a game with them, I'm not mean and I don't say no. I go "oh, yeah, you think you know me?" Y'know? I like to do that kind of stuff. I've had people say "Well, y'know, you kinda look like somebody but I don't wanna say, because you could be insulted." Because to them if I'm a civilian and they say "Hey do you do porn?" I could have a heart attack. I usually just play... "Why do I look like somebody? Hmm? Hmm? What've you been watching?"
Q: Yeah, with some of the male stars, and they'll go out and say "Yeah, I've been in"?
Julia Ann: Yeah, I won't not say it, but I like to make them work for it. It's just fun. Quite frankly, it's fun to watch them squirm a little.
Q: There's a lot of dialogue in Hercules, have you had any formal acting experience?
Julia Ann: No.
Q: Are you planning on getting into acting?
Julia Ann: Y'know, I haven't really thought about it. I think in order to do the movies that I'm contracted to do with Wicked, there are certain things that I'm actually being pushed to do that I haven't been pushed to do in the past. I'm having a script coach on this to help me, to help all of us. Because, y'know, we all run around thinking we know... "I've got my lines, I know." And then you say the line to someone who goes "Heh heh... no." And then they tell you, you've gotta say it like this. And you're like "Oh, that really made better sense."
Q: So have you learned a lot here?
Julia Ann: Always. There's so much to learn. And in the movies coming up they're asking "Can you speak with an English accent" or "Can you fence?" So now I'm realizing this is a great opportunity to learn new things, not just I can do this for this movie but to really go "Oh shoot, this is a good reason to take up fencing or a good reason to get a dialect coach." think it's a wonderful education.
Q: A lot of girls I talk to say they've got their SAG cards or that after this they might want to go into television or?
Julia Ann: Yeah, I don't have any interest in that. I've never had any interest in mainstream. It's funny, because of that a lot of mainstream has tried to pull me in. And that entertains me because whenever you really just don't care about something or don't want something it seems like they're right there going "C'mon, we'll pay you to do this" and you're like "Uh, okay." I've never had a big interest in it - it's not my dream to become some actress. It's just my dream to be happy, to enjoy my friends, to enjoy my family, to eat, drink and be merry.
Q: Have you worked with Sydnee Steele before?
Julia Ann: Actually, this movie is the first time that she and I have had a scene together.
Q: Have you known her from other movies? From on set?
Julia Ann: When I first came back in, they asked me "Hey, will you do a scene with Brad Armstrong in her movie Turning Point." And I said absolutely. That was probably the first time that I can recall that she and I have been on the set together. She and I get along very, very well. We haven't had a whole lot of contact, so it's easy to say, but I enjoy her quite a bit.
Q: So what's it like that you knew each other before, and now you're both contract girls?
Julia Ann: We didn't know each other, we really didn't. It was like "Hi, how ya doin, oh great, how you been, that's nice, what're you up to, okay g'bye." We've never had a very open relationship, and it's not because of any other reason than that I drifted out of the scene when she came in, so we bypassed each other.
Q: What character are you playing in this movie?
Julia Ann: I'm playing Hera. I am a goddess with a real shit attitude who wants to go around and have sex with all the little mortal people and squash them! Turn them into toads! It's not a stretch... no, I'm just kidding. I play Hera, I'm very angry because my husband ran off and had sex with a mortal and had a child, which absolutely incenses me, so now I'm doing everything I can to make his life miserable... and that would be Hercules, played by Evan Stone.
Q: You'll obviously be having sex in this movie... who are some of the actors and actresses you'll be working with?
Julia Ann: Joel Lawrence, Kristal Summers, Sydnee Steele, Billy Glide, Ian Daniels... sounds like a lot, doesn't it? Heh heh, that's it, those are my sex scenes. Two of them are three-ways and then one's a single.
Q: It seems like there's a lot of dialogue in this movie. How long did you have to prepare for that?
Julia Ann: The dialogue is very extensive. I had the script for a month, though, so for two weeks I read it on the road while I was dancing and for two weeks I read it at home and worked with the script coach. It's very extensive. A lot of it is direct-camera conversation... and it's not just like I can say it... I have to say it and I have to be smoking and there's all this other stuff to do at the same time and I'm supposed to be really over the top and really angry and looking like I came out of an AA meeting with my cigarettes. It's been a lot of juggling.
Q: You said you started off your career doing girl-girl. What do you prefer now, after being in the industry... both sexually and professionally.
Julia Ann: I love women, I think they're beautiful, I think they're pretty, I think they're fun. I'm not gay. So... when it really comes down to where my heart lies, where my estrogen lies, where everything lies... it really does lean toward men. I would rather deal with wood. I enjoy men, I enjoy the male penis. I enjoy sex with a man. I enjoy the passion with a man. I'm very male oriented. And like I said, not that I don't love women and not that I don't think they're beautiful and sweet and pretty and they have their time and place for me, but they aren't the majority percentage for me.
Q: This isn't the first time you've worked with Jonathan. How is working with Jonathan Morgan as a director compared to others? Say Michael Raven or Brad Armstrong?
Julia Ann: My god they're all so different. Jonathan and Brad are probably the closest to each other, but y'know working in the same company and being friends, I think they pull a lot from each other's personalities, a lot of the same humor, a lot of the same aspects of dealing with people. Jonathan is off the cuff. It's good, it's a comedy because you're going to be cracking up when the camera's on and when the camera's off. Michael Raven's darker - he's got a darker feel. It's not a comedy, it's probably never gonna be. But with Jonathan it's all about the humor - all about the fun. The hours are long, but he's getting the detail down and he wants perfection. When it came to my dialogue he made me sit there and do it for four hours until he had those things exactly the way he wanted them. It's long and it's costly, but in the end the product will be gold.
Q: In terms of your contract with Wicked, without giving us details what does that entail?
Julia Ann: What we decided to do was sign a one-year contract. Because at the end of the year, who knows? Maybe everybody's goals will change. Maybe we'll want to structure it differently. You never know. We're doing it for six movies, so you definitely can expect six out of me. But we didn't want to limit ourselves, because Wicked does so many good projects throughout a year... god, what happens if Sydnee Steele or Stephanie Swift or Devinn Lane come out with a fabulous script and a fabulous movie and I'm chomping at the bit looking at some part going "Oh my god, I wanna play that" but Wicked goes "Well, y'know we only have you for six movies." So we left it open-ended that it was six movies plus I would do extra scenes in other people's movies... y'know, a minimum of this amount of scenes so that way I can play with the other players. It wasn't at any extra cost to Wicked and yet it was so much more beneficial to me and them.
Q: When do you foresee yourself going back on the road?
Julia Ann: In the past I've been on the road so much. It was a minimum of two weeks a month, if not three. It was a lot, it was very hard on me. I have dedicated a minimum of half my year to Wicked in this deal, not only that - I've dedicated a lot of my year to Playboy. Between the two, I've narrowed my dancing to possibly one week a month and that's about it. Other than that, I'll be spending a lot more time at home focusing on the movies and the wonderful toys that we're gonna do and all the hundreds of other jobs that come with the one job that you guys actually see that we do, which is the movies... it creates ten more jobs for us, so I'll be home working on those now.
Q: You were saying you had to learn skills for different shoots. Was there anything you had to learn for Hercules?
Julia Ann: This one actually was the first time that I had to deal with a coach. I had never dealt with a script coach or an acting coach. So that was in and of itself an entirely new world... someone looking at you going "No no no - wait wait wait" so you're stopping in the middle of a sentence and every time you stop you gasp because you just know you didn't get it right and they're just gonna make you do it again and again. So pretty soon you think they're crazy, and then all of a sudden you do it the way they've been trying to get you to do it for twenty minutes and you're like "Oh my god, that made sense." Then you feel so silly that you were getting amped and all.
Interview with Julia Ann - October 20, 2001
On the Set Of "Turning Point" in Los Angeles, CA
Pornstarempire.com: So I am sitting here talking with Julia Ann. How are you today?
Julia Ann: Very well, thank you.
Q: So you don't make a lot of movies, do you?
Julia Ann: No.
Q: How many does this make for you? Do you know?
Julia Ann: Oh my god, I don't know. Brad (Armstrong) you own them all. How many is that?
Brad: I watched about 15 of them last night, I was studying them (winking).
Julia Ann: (laughing)
Brad: I watched a least a half a dozen of them.
Julia Ann: You're so full of bologna.
Brad: Hidden Obsessions, and...
Julia Ann: You're wasting time. (Turning back to me) I don't know 34, 35, something like that.
Q: And you said that you think you started in '91 with Hidden Obsessions?
Julia Ann: Yeah, I think so. Hidden Obsessions was definitely my first film, but I'm not sure if it was '91 or '92, somewhere in there.
Q: And you worked with...
Julia Ann: I worked with Janine, we did a scene with an ice dildo. And then I did another scene where she and I were just spectators. If I remember correctly, I think that it was Marc Wallice and Sunset Thomas that were on the bed. If memory serves me, but...
Q: How was working with that ice dildo?
Julia Ann: Very cold, (laughing) it was just friggin' cold. Yeah, you know we shot for so long, I don't remember if it was 4 or 5 of them. Yeah they had many of them sculptured and they would just keep melting them down, it was similar to the last one we'd leave off on because sometimes they would get jagged. It was a lot of fun to have sex with ice as it was, let alone jagged ice, so...
Q: So now do you do a lot more girl/girl scenes or boy/girl scenes?
Julia Ann: You know the last movie I did was all girls and that was Beautiful Nasty with Devinn Lane. The one before that was Island Fever and that was boy/girl, so it just really depends. I tend to like the boy/girl movies better, I think that a lot of the girls like the girl/girl stuff better...and it's not that I don't think that women are beautiful and all that, I just think that I relate better in more of a heterosexual relationship.
Q: Do you like it rougher, more aggressive? Or do you not have a preference?
Julia Ann: Can you shut this off until we get rid of Brad? (Julia Ann asks Brad Armstrong to leave because she has never worked with him before and doesn't want to change the possible flow of the scene they are about to do together. So I turned off the tape.)
Julia Ann (continued): We don't want him to get any ideas; he doesn't need any pointers. He and I have never done a movie together so he can just figure it out on his own. You know it really depends on the person I'm with, the vibe that they give off. If somebody gives off a dirty, nasty, anything goes kind of vibe then of course it makes it go more in that direction. If somebody gives off that...I'm easily shocked kind of vibe, I don't really want to shock them too bad so I will be more love making.
Q: What about in your personal life?
Julia Ann: That is my personal life. In a movie, I do what it calls for, but in my personal life it really depends upon the person because a lot of people aren't really very rough and you can't make somebody rough. They just can't pull it off and you end up mad at them (laughing) wanting them to be able to pull it off. You get disappointed, so it's better to just work with what that person's vibe is.
Q: What do you like sexually?
Julia Ann: Everything. Ah...there's people I like to be dominant with and people I don't like to be dominant with. There's a...I'm very much a chameleon and I am very much into that person and what they like. I can find...umm...sexuality in all of it, you know, so I don't necessarily need it to be all one way.
Q: And who are you're favorite people to work with?
Julia Ann: Oh god! I hate that question. There's a...I've like working with a lot of people and it's not fair that the people that I could like to work with I didn't because the scene was difficult. You know sometimes standing in like freezing cold on the hood of a car, or in the middle of the night when they're holding something over you so that the rain doesn't hit your head. You know you get into these positions that aren't necessarily comfortable and I would probably love to be with that person if it wasn't for the fact that set was so difficult. And it's pretty much the sets themselves that have made it a good scene. I have had awesome scenes with Tony Tedeschi, I have had awesome scenes with Steven St. Croix, I've had some awesome scenes with Bobby Vitale, Devin Wolf, let me think...there was one not that long ago that was...you know, it's escaping me right now. Oh...no, no, no...I did a scene with Sean Michaels, which actually doesn't exist. Nobody has the scene...I own the scene, so its never actually ever been put out there, but he was a wonderful person to work with and with the girls...Juli Ashton, Devinn Lane and I think I wouldn't be complete if I didn't say Charlie. I think every girl in this industry that does girl/girl movies wants to work with Charlie or likes to work with Charlie.
Q: And do you have a favorite all-time scene?
Julia Ann: Oh my goodness...umm...you know I did two scenes that I absolutely loved to do but they were because I got to do them with Toni English and she gave me the ability to write my own scenes. One was in the movie The Heist it was me and Tony (Tedeschi) and the other one was called Heat of the Moon and that was with me, Bobby Vitale and Julian and it was the only three-way I had ever done with two guys before. It was a spur of the moment, the night before we cast it as a three-way because it was just supposed to be me and Bobby. So...but again, it was something she let me write. It was...the vibe was something I wanted to experience, the scene was made to look like that underground dance scene with the strobe and the whole thing happening where everybody looks like they're . (Laughing) You know, but it's that out of control vibe that you get in that nighttime scene, and I wanted to have sex in that vibe so she made that happen. And then in "The Heist" I wanted to do more of a love scene because we're not really allowed to haul off and hit each other during sex because it doesn't look consensual. But we worked it out so that every smack there was a definite repercussion of consensuality. It wasn't like "oh...my god, don't do this to me." It was like I smack you and I take you, then I smack you, then I take you. And so we were allowed to get away with that and it was so much fun to hit Tony. I love Tony, but he can take a good smack so...
Q: So is there anyone in the business that you haven't worked with that you're dying to work with?
Julia Ann: Not that I can think of actually.
Jonathan Morgan: Are you ready?
Julia Ann: (Nodding and holding up her hand to signal one minute). I pretty much get to work with...(have) gotten to work with everybody.
Q: Have you worked with the director (Jonathan Morgan)?
Julia Ann: No (laughing). Today I get to work with Brad Armstrong and I haven't worked with Brad before. And its been a long time coming, and we're kind of flirting with each other off screen.
Jonathan Morgan: Dry humping each other off screen.
Julia Ann: Dry humping each other off screen? No, no, no.
Q: Well I know you have to run, thank you for taking the time out and speaking with me.
Julia Ann: Thank you.
Interview with Julia Ann - June 30, 2000
Van Nuys, CA
Q: Hi Julia, long time no see.
Julia Ann: Yeah, it's been since the last time I danced here at Bob's in
December of 1998 with Janine.
Q: (Pointing to Julia's merchandise to purchase at the club) Hey, that's a
cool bumper sticker.
The saying on the decal is "Thank God For Porn".
Julia Ann: You like that?
Q: Yeah, we could use it as a banner to your website. (ed: www.julia-ann.com)
Julia Ann: Oh, that should piss off a few people! (Laughing)
Q: Speaking of pissing off of the Lord, I remember the first time we met, at
a signing for your comic book. I said Goddamn it real loud at the store and
you reprimanded me for the rest of the night. You still very spiritual?
Julia Ann: Not really spiritual per say, but let's just say I believe in Karma. I
really don't care if someone says Goddamn it, it just doesn't really serve
any purpose blurting it out. I've calmed down a lot since then.
Q: So how have you been since then?
Julia Ann: I have been extremely busy and things have really changed in my life.
Q: I guess I should ask you first, what was your reaction and feelings on
your dance partner, Janine's, decision to leave the business and retire?
Julia Ann: (Making a strained face) Nothing really, at all. We really haven't dance
together since last December when you last talked to me. It's been almost a
year and when we danced that night, we got this weird vibe from the audience
It wasn't the same intensity that we used to get from past shows. We kind of
knew then and there that it was probably time for us to separate the duo and
try things on the road separately. I just got off the phone with her
yesterday. She has moved and changed her number and is really taking this
decision of hers to retire very seriously. I support her on it. Maybe one day
we will dance again together, but at the moment it's not in the cards at all
Q: What is in the future for you?
Julia Ann: Playboy TV just signed me to take over as host of Playboy TV's "Naughty
Amateur Home Videos". I also am starring in a new video from Juli Ashton's
Ashton View Productions. It's called "Essentially Julia Ann" and I have 7 sex
scenes in it and it is going to show me in a different light than you have
ever seen me before.
Q: Will it show your spiritual side?
Julia Ann: It's going to show a "political" side of me.
Q: How so?
Julia Ann: Well, I'm not signed with Vivid Video anymore. And everyone always knew
me from my performances in their titles, as the "pretty girl making love".
But, I really like nasty fucking!
Q: (Shocked) You're kidding!
Julia Ann: I'm now signed with adult model agent, Lucky Smith. He asked me the other
day, "So how was sex last night?" And I said, "Before or after I
him?" (Laughing)
Q: (Looking at Julia in a whole new, nasty light) And...?
Julia Ann: I gave him an enema and I peed on him while he was on the toilet trying
to get it out...(Laughing) I really love nasty sex. I'm talking with a major
video company right now about starting my own series and I'm very, VERY close
to closing a deal. The company will also release titles I appear in and those
are the ones that will show everyone how I really am.
Q: Does your video company have a name?
Julia Ann: I'm still working on that one. I wanted to call it "WIPP: Women In Porn
Productions", but then I was afraid everyone would think it was a fetish
line. So I'll tell you as soon as I decide on that one. I really want to show
the sexy, hot, sensual side of sex. I got so tired of my films, how you had
to do all those standard scenes they always had in them. I want to do sexy
fun things. Like film a guy put his hand up my dress and keep it there. Doing
all these nasty things to me, working up to getting each other off. Or having
sex with my clothes on. A guy coming up to me in a dress and then lifting it
up and fucking me from behind. I want to keep the mystery there but also very
hot intense sex. I also got the directing and producing bug, after working on
the "Essentially Julia Ann" video. I just fell in love with working behind
the camera.
Q: How did you feel after the announcement of the engagement of adult film
stars Jill Kelly and Julian? I know you dated Julian for a while.
Julia Ann: (Shocked, strained look) I never really thought about it until you just
asked me that question. I think it's great they found each other and have a
good relationship. I dated Julian for all the wrong reasons. My past
relationships with men outside the industry always ended up in Hell. I
thought if I dated someone inside the industry, I would have better luck in
love. But after a while, I just realized it wasn't really what I was looking
for. So we ended our relationship. The only thing that kind of bugged me was
a week later after we broke up, Julian called to say that he didn't want to
be friends anymore and I figured that he must have found someone new. I guess
that was when he met Jill, but it seems kind of petty of him to call. It was
like he found a pair of balls after the fact. Oh well.
I'm very happy for Jill. She has had some terrible relationships in the past;
she deserves, finally, a good one. I also hope the best for Julian. Wow, I
never thought anyone would ever ask me a question about that. I'm kind of
glad you did.
Q: I was just curious.
Julia Ann: Besides, I'm sort of in a blossoming relationship at the moment. But we
are taking it VERY slow.
Q: Who is this mystery man? Is he someone in the industry?
Julia Ann: He isn't an actor or anything like that. He doesn't work on films or
anything, just works around it.
Q: Oh, come on. You must give me a hint. Is he a magazine publisher?
Julia Ann: I never said that, so you can't print it! (Smiling)
Q: Oh, so he is a magazine publisher!
Julia Ann: I never said that, so you can't print that! (Laughing)
Q: Fine, I'll move on. I see you have a website. (ed: www.julia-ann.com) Is
it doing well for you?
Julia Ann: It finally is. I had to fight to get my domain name back from someone,
but I have had it up and running since January, and it finally is paying off
I really enjoy being online and emailing all of my friends and fans. Other
than that and the production deals and new videos I'm doing, I'm staying very
busy. And I'm still dancing a lot. I did do the "Man Show" on Comedy Central,
and I plan to do more guest spots on cable. That's about it. Hope you don't
misquote me too much. You didn't write anything down.
Julia Ann: Thanks for coming to see me!
